Tony Burke, Federal Member for Watson today attended the official opening ceremony at St Therese Primary School in Lakemba for projects built as part of the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER).
St Therese’s Primary School received funding the National School Pride (NSP) program and Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) element of the BER for a multipurpose hall and refurbished Early Learning Centre.
The BER is a key element of the Australian Government’s Economic Stimulus Plan to support jobs, stimulate local economies and invest in important infrastructure for the long term.
Mr Burke congratulated the school on their new facilities and spoke of the benefit to both the school and local community.
“When we invest in schools we invest in the future of Australia. These projects provided jobs when work was short during the global financial crisis and now they will provide a first class education environment for generations to come.”
