Federal Labor Member for Watson, Tony Burke, today hosted his annual Watson Christmas/New Year’s card competition winner’s morning tea and prize presentation.
Mr. Burke presented winning students with certificates and book voucher prizes in front of school principals and parents.
Ten students were recognised for their outstanding submissions, with Amy Sorial and Irene Han from Greenacre Baptist Christian School taking home the $200 book prize as overall winners.
Each year Mr. Burke invites Primary Schools in his local area to participate in the competition. The winning designs are used in his Christmas, New Year and Lunar New Year cards.
“Going through the submissions I receive each year is something I always enjoy, and I’m forever impressed by the breadth of the student’s creative and artistic talents,” Mr Burke said.
Fourteen schools made submissions to the competition in 2014, two more than 2013.
“Our local area is such a dynamic and multicultural place with so many different festivals and culturally significant days. This competition is a great way for students in Watson to get involved and share their artistic talents with the broader community.
