TURNBULL GOVERNMENT VOTES TO EXPLAIN ITS OWN FAILURES

Just before 6pm tonight, the Turnbull Government made history – it is the first Federal Government in Australian history to vote against itself.

For the first time since Federation in 1901, tonight the Government has voted IN FAVOUR of a second reading amendment.

Assistant Treasurer Kelly O’Dwyer voted in favour of Shadow Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh’s amendment that:

“calls on the Government to explain why it has failed to close tax loopholes and increase transparency in Australia.”

The Liberals have called on themselves, to explain their failures.

Tonight the Government will have to find a way through this mess, as the House of Representatives practice has no precedence.

In just the first 10 sitting days of the 45th Parliament:

  1. The Government lost control of the floor of the House of Representatives;
  2. The Treasurer introduced legislation containing a $107 million black hole;
  3. The Senate ran out of legislation to debate;
  4. And tonight, the House of Representatives voted unanimously that the Government has failed to close tax loopholes and increase transparency in Australia while the Minister for Revenue was at the dispatch box;

This Government is making history as the most incompetent administration in federation.
