Tony Burke announces Christmas card competition winners

Tony Burke, Federal Member for Watson, today hosted his annual Watson Christmas/New Years Card Competition Winners Afternoon Tea.

Mr. Burke presented the winning students with certificates and book voucher prizes in front of school principals and parents.

Eight students were recognised for their outstanding work including the overall winner Shivam T, from Canterbury South Public School winning a two hundred dollar book for his school.

Primary Schools in the Watson electorate are invited to participate in the annual card competition, sending in designs for Mr. Burke’s Christmas card, New Year card, and Lunar New Year card.

“We have had a great response from local schools this year and each entry was of outstanding quality,” Mr. Burke said.

“I’ve been really impressed again with the students’ creativity and talent and will be displaying the Cards at my office in Parliament House.

“In our part of Sydney people celebrate many different festivals and have many different special days.

“This competition has been a great way for children, no matter what their background, to get involved and share some extraordinary talent with the community.”

Seven primary schools entered the 2011 competition; Australian International Academy Strathfield, Banksia Road Public School Greenacre, Beverly Hills North Public School, Greenacre Baptist Christian Community School, McCallums Hill Public School and Punchbowl Public School.
