Member for Watson, Tony Burke, today announced the Federal Labor Government will provide funding to fix a dangerous black spot on Cosgrove Road.
The approved project in the Federal electorate of Watson is:
- Cosgrove Road, between Punchbowl Road and Liverpool Road, at Strathfield South: to install curve advisory signage, a double centre line, a high friction surface and wire rope barrier.
The project was recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts and will be delivered during the course of the coming financial year (2012/13).
Mr Burke said since being elected in 2007, the Federal Labor Government has allocated funds to fix twelve black spots across the Watson electorate.
“I’ve been using Cosgrove Road all my life. You have a long stretch without cross roads where plenty of vehicles find themselves going beyond the speed limit just as they approach the bend” said Tony Burke.
“We’ve had accident after accident where cars and trucks heading towards Belfield have edged across the centre lines into oncoming traffic”.
“This funding makes sure that every trip down Cosgrove Road will be safer than it ever was before. “
The Black Spot Program is part of the commitment to reduce crashes on our roads.
