Tony Burke, Member for Watson, today announced that the Muslim Women Association would receive funding from the Federal Labor Government.
The Muslim Women Association has been successful in receiving a grant under the Your Community Heritage program for the development of a heritage project - Paving the way: The story of the Muslim Women Association.
“Community heritage is about making sure we preserve all the different stories of our community,” Mr Burke said.
“The Muslim Women Association has an important tradition in our community, operating for 30 years and helping a wide variety of ethnic groups.
“I am very proud to announce this funding which will allow them to develop ‘Paving the way: The story of the Muslim Women Association’.
“This project will document the story of the Muslim Women Association, its history and the contribution of Muslim women to Australian society.
“To really appreciate the story of our country we need to go further than the milestones that are in textbooks, it’s the untold stories that live and breathe in every community.”
The Federal Labor Government is supporting 235 heritage projects around Australia.
$27,500 is being provided for the project. Further information about the Your Community Heritage program is available online at www.environment.gov.au/heritage/programs/ych.
